Miss HollyDazzle 2017 Chyna Lynner
Have you ever competed in pageants before?
What made you want to compete in the Miss Grand Forks pageant?
I am a passionate person who loves being involved in the community; therefore, having the opportunity to speak about a topic I feel passionately about and possibly inspire others in my community is something I couldn’t pass up. Not to mention, I will have the opportunity to be more involved in my community and devote more time to service. I can’t wait!
In a few sentences, tell us about your platform.
My platform is called, "The Beauty of Life: Creating a Community for Everyone." I believe it is important for students, educators, employers, and all community members to acknowledge the change that is amongst us (the growth of diversity), to work towards an understanding and to gain acceptance for all walks of life, to use others’ strengths to help better our community and above all, to be kind, because life (despite how different it might be between people) is a beautiful thing.
What are your hobbies?
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, reading, learning how to invest, writing for the Odyssey Online, rollerblading, ice skating (since I’ve skated since I was 5 years old), and traveling to knew places.
Tell me about your talent
I have been playing since I was 5 years old. Therefore, I chose to play piano for my talent because it allows me to express emotion and love for something without talking and I think that is very special.
How do you plan to implement your platform in the Grand Forks community?
I plan to implement my platform by volunteering at local events in the Grand Forks community. I also plan on reaching out to schools, various work places, and churches, in the hopes of having the opportunity to present my interactive presentation, which would inform the public about the content of my platform and my goals for the Grand Forks community.
What do you hope to get out of your year of service?
Throughout my life I have had many opportunities to volunteer and to give service to others. The appreciation and gratefulness I have received from these people is more rewarding than anything I have experienced. Therefore, I hope to be able to reach out to more people by being involved with more events and service opportunities! These experiences are truly life changing and with them, it is evident that everyone can make a difference!
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years, I hope to have obtained two Bachelor Degrees (Elementary Education and Spanish) and a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership. I will be teaching in a high need school in North Dakota, in the area I am most needed. Most importantly, I hope to have started a family, and with them, I hope to find time to be involved in the community, enjoy life doing simple things together, and travel to new places together.
What are you most excited about during your year of service?
I am excited to have the opportunity to devote more time to service, as well as network with people all throughout my community. I hope I will be able to inspire others to do the same!
What is your favorite food?
My all time favorite food is a doughnut. What kind you may ask? Any doughnut that isn't jelly-filled. I have loved them ever since I was a little girl, when I used to call them "dokies." In the future, if I have an opportunity to open a doughnut shop, I will name it "Chyna's Dokies."
