In a few sentences, tell us about your platform.
The Power of Pretty challenges people to look within themselves to find exceptional qualities rather than focus on outer beauty. It is inspired by Katie Makkai's poem "Pretty" in which she writes, "You will be pretty intelligent, pretty creative, pretty amazing; but you will never be merely pretty." The goal of my platform is to help people reframe the word pretty in those terms.
What are your hobbies?
Playing board games with my family and friends, organizing my apartment, and seeing new movies in the theater.
Tell me about your talent
I perform an excerpt from the poem which inspired my platform - Katie Makkai's "Pretty."
How do you plan to implement your platform in the Grand Forks community?
I have already presented a "Pretty" workshop with Pi Beta Phi sorority at UND and would love to conduct more throughout the area.
What do you hope to get out of your year of service?
I hope that my year of service can serve as an example to younger girls and women that they are capable of achieving their dreams. I also hope that this year brings a lot of personal growth as I step outside of my comfort zone through pageantry.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I hope to have several years of teaching experience under my belt and have completed a Master's Degree in Educational leadership. Perhaps I'll be on the way to achieving my ultimate goal of becoming an elementary school principal.
What are you most excited about during your year of service?
I'm excited about all of the new people I will meet and competing for the title of Miss North Dakota.
What is your favorite food?
I love boneless wings that are completely smothered in barbecue sauce! I also like ice cream and yummy homestyle classics like mashed potatoes & gravy and baked chicken!
